VITA NUOVA
It still is somewhat troubled – all the banks are bare -,
the water in the new canal.
It still has to clarify and to glean;
much has to sink down in its stream.
The gull, reflected in his flight,
should see but the sky below and on high,
so that its beaming velocity is
a still white image within a blue niche.
