THIS WAS A DAY

This was a day of secret coveting,
of strong desire and hidden lust.
Now evening falls; now comes the rest
and to my silent heart Thou turnest im.

Just like a bird hides in its feather-dress
and by its trembling heart is lulled asleep,
a breathing softness, with no heed
of everything to harm its unsuspectingness,

so, without question, did I give myself to you.
There is no shield but just your love around me.
Dissolute life, that robber, crude and cruel,
rushes past my peace of mind incessantly.
But, sheltered in the circle of your
all-embracing charm, I’m happy and my happiness is you.
