MOTHER

Malicious pleasure was abroad and mourning
and people bent their heads in shame,
blindly stared aloft, unseeing,
as if they would compel me to be cursed of saved
Just one has ranged the barren wilderness with me;
just one stood by my side.
Your silent lips sucked from my wounds so patiently
the deadly venom and your open arms afforded me a hide.
As I grew well again,
you suffered all the pain!
Moved from your love was once our Father,
when He spoke: “I shall comfort like a mother.”
