Lord, day and night
You see our sight,
woeful for passion and sin,
illness and smart.
Let us go in,
rest at Your heart.

Fighting we failed,
only obtained
nothing but wounds.
For shame and smart,
wish that we found
rest at Your heart.

Everything spoiled,
we never toiled,
reveling and begging forgot about You.
Though nagged and tired,
give those who hurt You
rest at Your heart.

God, to belong to You,
yet be in want of You,
oh, how its hurts!
Don’t spare me smarts,
but give me, Lord,
rest at Your heart.

When You chastise us,
this Will oppress us;
yet You come near us.
Is life too hard,
Father, allow us
rest at Your heart.

Although our praying
turns dull and erring,
don’t take it ill.
Everything in us is twisted and turned.
Yet, Father, fill
all Yours with rest at Your heart.
