One kind of peace remains, for every weary soul,
despondent, sick of long and seeking roams,
afraid to live, as much afraid of death-bells’ toll,
when, one day, it is finally called home.

One kind of joy remains, which no one can attain
than by the harshness of Your smarts.
There is one joy which no one can obtain
than by the purifying of the heart.

There is one kind of beauty which the soul but finds
in You, the most lamentable of all mankind,
when it sees in the One for Whom so few sincerely mind
by far a greater beauty than in any human child.

My Jesus, may my soul receive Your peace.
Let me once taste the joy of sitting at Your feet.
And when I shall awake from that long, temporary sleep,
give it Your beauty, since it holds You dear.
